Lippincott & Margulies Wins 2002 SEGD Design Award
For Nissan Retail Environment
New York, June 4, 2002
Leading identity and brand strategy consulting firm Lippincott & Margulies has been recognized by The Society for Environmental Graphic Design (SEGD) for excellence in identity design. The award, which was presented to senior partner Peter Dixon during a ceremony at the SEGD annual conference late last week, honors the firm for its global retail environment design program for Nissan.
"We are very proud of the Nissan program and pleased with the recognition it has received from SEGD and the design community," said Dixon, who led the project for Lippincott & Margulies. "The overwhelming response we've received from all audiences, particularly Nissan's customers, dealers and employees, demonstrates how powerfully a retail environment can impact an audience when you let the brand's attributes lead your design decisions."
SEGD, an international non-profit organization, selected the winning designs from 292 entries from around the world. Recognized projects were on display last week at the SEGD Expo in Denver. They will become part of a traveling exhibition available to schools, conferences and other events.
The revitalized Nissan retail environment design was initially unveiled in September 2001 at the Nissan Dealer Show in Las Vegas. The first prototype opened in April in Lithia Springs, Georgia, outside Atlanta. The new design features bold, innovative signage, a welcoming entrance and distinctive architecture reflecting the design language in new Nissan vehicles. Customers have responded well to the easy-to-navigate layout and amenities like children's playrooms, business lounges and retail shops, while dealers have praised the new design for its practicality and visual appeal.
